7th August - i had my psychomotor test today. A week ago MAS called me up to go for it. It was either the previous thursday or friday that MAS ( Malaysian Airlines System ) called me up. Looks like they accepted my application letter. Thanks to my dad, he got me to go for the test. Basically, there is 4 parts that i have to undergo to get the sponsorship from MAS into getting the Cadet Pilot position.

In this selection process i will have to undergo :
* Psychomotor
* Psychometric
-English
-Maths
-IQ question
-Crazy 200 question personality test
* Interview
* Medical Checkup

and last Tuesday, which is yesterday, i had gone through the first part of it. Which was the psychomotor test. This test basically tests your Hand-eye Coordination. I guess they want to test how well you do things, calmly, and without mistake. In case of any emergency, Pilots would need to have fast reactions to face certain problems. Although some of the tests in the psychomotor test may not seem relevant to flying at all, but it does differentiate peoples characteristics. Whether the person is in control of himself/herself or not.

=============================================

The Psychomotor Test.

This psychomotor test is divided into 5 sections.

Test 1.
The first section, has got to do with how well your hand can coordinate with what you see, and how smoothly and softly you can move your joystick. @_@ ok its hard to explain let me just show you.
Basically, you must keep the vertical line and horizontal line over each other right in the middle where the red dots are, with one joystick. Moving the joystick downwards, the horizontal line will move upwards, and vice-versa. Moving the joystick left will make the vertical line move left, and right, to the right. Sounds easy? Here's the catch. The HORIZONTAL LINE AND VERTICAL LINES MOVES ON ITS OWN. Your job is to maintain them both right in the middle. Its really hard. @_@ The hardest of the 5 tests for me.
You have 3 tries on this one. i scored 2/10 on the first, 2/10 on the second, and 2/10 on the last try. Saddening. :(

------------------------------------------------

Test 2.
This second test, is to test how fast you can capture an image in your mind, process it fast, and answer without making a mistake. (accurately) Its something like this.
This test is divided into 5 sections. Every section has 5 questions. What you have to do is basically remember what you see in the picture. Then they will ask you something like, POSITIVE RIGHT SQUARE. (which also means, square on the right hand) and you must answer accordingly. For this picture, its actually 2 man holding a square on their right hand. :)
In all 5 sections you have to do the same thing. But in every section the time for you to choose the most accurate answer decreases. From 8 seconds in the first section to 4 seconds in the 5th section.
This was quite okay. :) quite easy to make a mistake though. oh, i forgot to mention that in the picture there is only 2 positions. in the actual thing it has 4 different types of positions. i couldn't draw stick figures to NOT face me. HAHA..

------------------------------------------------

Test 3.
There is 10 questions in this section. This test actually tests how good are you at searching for something that is hard to find. In a short period of time. Its a little hard to draw it for you, but its basically two huge patterns.. and they will give you one small shape, and ask you whether that shape is in any of the patterns. you have 60 seconds to answer every question. this was ok too. :) wasn't too bad because i'm quite used to playing word puzzle games. LOL. those that we have to look for the word(s) in jumbled up letters.

------------------------------------------------

Test 4.
This next test is a test on your concentration. Looks something like this.
What you have to do, as you can see its a table with colors on the top, and shapes on the sides. inside, will have shapes with colors in them. Your job is to click on the shape that matches both sides. In this case, its the yellow square which i already highlighted with orange in color. The shapes will keep appearing and disappearing. Even the sides, the colors and the shapes at the sides would change too after a while. So you must really concentrate on what you click. The picture that you're supposed to click would only stay there for about 3-5 seconds. If you don't click in time, you would miss it.
The score for this part depends on how many Hits and Misses you make. You do this 3 times, each time you do it, its 2 minutes long. The first time i didn't really know what to expect, i got 3 Hits and 7 Misses. Second time, 11 Hits 0 Misses. 3rd time was the most tricky, i got 10 Hits 2 Misses. I guess i did well on this one. :)

-------------------------------------------

Test 5.
This test requires you to fly a "so called" aeroplane through boxes. Its just like a game you would play on the ps2. those flying games. LOL just that this one you'll be using a real joystick. It looks something like this.
The thing about this test is that, the "so called" aeroplane is really sensitive or the joystick. >.<>

==========================

Overall i guess it was TOUGH. haha.. There was a PPL License holder who came out and started complaining that the test has got nothing to do with flying at all. =p I went in with 3 other people. All Malay people. After everyone finished, the HR person explained about MAS sponsorship and all that and announced who passed/failed. She said, "I'm sorry to say this but only 1 person out of you 4 passed today's test. Congratulations Corey, you passed the test." Now THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! haha... i was so happy at that moment. I'm still so happy now. HAHA... the thing is, this test you can only take it once a year. And i made it through the first part. Thank YOU all for you're prayers and support. And my Dad for loads of luck!! THANKS!!
